Precision Medicine and Rare Disease

Dr. Francis Collins is a renowned physician scientist, Director of National Institutes of Health, and my role model. I was watching his interview by Dr. Eric Topol last night, and came up with multiple ideas.

Based on the technologies available for us including genome sequencing, we can potentially figure out molecular wiring altered in our patients. Based on the information we have, we can potentially design personalized treatments for our patients. This is probably easier in patients with genetic diseases because not many factors are involved in the pathogenesis. I would like to propose that we will focus on rare diseases, including Wolfram syndrome, to test the feasibility of precision medicine.

Thank you for reading my blog. I always appreciate your continued support.
